Work-Near-Home movement

Our mission

Kodeska exists to help people find inspiring places to work near home — reducing long commutes and their economic, social, and environmental costs.

Better wellbeing

More time with family and community. Less commute stress and fatigue.

Lower emissions

Fewer long-distance commutes means less CO₂, less congestion, cleaner air.

Stronger communities

People who work locally spend locally, supporting high streets and local businesses.

The problem with long commutes

Millions of people commute long distances to city-centre offices every day, even when their actual work could be done anywhere. These commutes cost workers hours of their lives, significant money in travel costs, and take a real toll on physical and mental health.

They also damage local communities. When workers leave their neighbourhood at 7am and return at 7pm, they spend little time or money locally. Town centres and high streets lose the daytime vitality that makes communities thrive.

The opportunity

Many people don't need to go to a central city office every day. They need a good place to work — somewhere with fast internet, decent coffee, a desk, and a bit of community. That place doesn't have to be 60 miles away.

At the same time, there are spaces everywhere that are underused — church halls, spare offices, old shops, library rooms, garden studios. These spaces could become vibrant local work hubs with the right platform connecting them to people who need them.

What Kodeska does

Kodeska is a marketplace connecting workers with workspace close to home. We help landlords and space owners list their spaces. We help workers find places that fit their needs — whether that's a quiet garden office, a coworking hub, a private meeting room, or a creative studio.

Every space on Kodeska is scored on its Social Positive impact, recognising workplaces that make a real positive difference to their communities and the environment.
